I knew it was too good to be true: Just as we were about ready to get into beta-testing
and subsequent manufacture of Road Fighter, Eduardo had a relapse of the illness he had
a couple of months ago. And again, Eduardo decided he didn't want to bother checking on
his e-mail anymore. I had to call him up on the phone to get some news.
I won't get into details, but we both agreed that Opcode Games should be shut down until
Eduardo's health gets better. I don't know when we'll be back, but until then, neither
myself nor Eduardo will be responding to any e-mails sent to us via our respective
opcodegames.com e-mail accounts. As far as you're concerned, dear blog reader, both
Eduardo and I are on an extended leave of absence.
Honestly, I can't help feeling hopelessly powerless here. That Eduardo may be in no shape
to work on his ColecoVision projects, I can understand and accept, but when a guy gets so
down that he won't even bother to check up on his e-mail, I think that's pushing things a
little too far. When I get sick and/or depressed, it doesn't stop me from reading my
e-mail. In fact, replying to e-mail (and posting in forums) is usually a good way to get
my mind off my personal problems, and it boggles my mind that Eduardo can't seem to see
it that way. So you reply to your friends' e-mails only when your health is perfect,
Eduardo? Sorry, but I simply can't see the common sense in that.
Okay, rant's over. I'd rather end this blog entry with some positive news: Next January,
I'll be officially starting my study of ColecoVision programming, with the goal of
releasing my first homebrew game (and hopefully several more after that) later in 2008.
In order to fully commit to this project, I will not be renewing my gym membership (which
expires at the end of December) and that will give me some added free time. I will also
be clearing my 2008 agenda as much as possible, and refrain from commiting to any other
hobby projects, to remove all unnecessary distractions. I believe that's the only way I'm
going to get any real homebrew programming done. So between now and 2008, I'll be working
to finish some current projects and to tie up various loose ends.
What will my first homebrew ColecoVision game be, you ask? I'd rather not spoil the
surprise, but considering I'm a beginner at CV programming, expect my first game to be
quite small and simple. Nothing to write home about, really. You have to start somewhere,
you know, and it's never a good thing to be over-ambitious.
Anyhow, there are plenty of people out there who support Opcode Games, and I would
personally like to thank you all for your continued support. Hopefully we'll be back
before the end of 2007, but I'm definately not making any promises.
